History

Academy College opened our doors in 1936 as the Academy of Accountancy. We offered specialized business education to help students build practical skills and professional confidence. For decades, accounting has remained the cornerstone of our curriculum, setting the standard for career preparation that continues today.

As technology reshaped the workplace, Academy College evolved too, expanding our computer training through CDI Computer Academy. Next, we recognized a need for aviation education in the Twin Cities. The college partnered with Thunderbird Aviation to create the Academy of Aviation, offering students hands-on flight training and industry-aligned instruction.

To unify our expanding programs and reflect a broader mission, the institution became Academy College. We offer Bachelor’s and Associate degrees in Aviation, Business, and Accounting, continuing our commitment to helping students prepare for meaningful, in-demand careers through focused, practical education.

Nearly a century later, Academy College remains a private, career-driven college rooted in Minnesota’s educational history. Our legacy of real-world learning and personalized instruction continues to guide every course, program, and partnership, helping students achieve lasting success in their professions and communities.
